but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.’


‘In fact, God knows that when  you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’


Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.


However, they will become his servants so that they may recognise the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands.’


I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.’


Fight the good fight  of the faith. Take hold of eternal life  to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.


Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.


I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.


These are the nations the Lord left in order to test all those in Israel who had experienced none of the wars in Canaan.


These nations included the five rulers  of the Philistines  and all of the Canaanites, the Sidonians,  and the Hivites  who lived in the Lebanese mountains from Mount Baal-hermon as far as the entrance to Hamath.
