Joshua 8:29 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

29 He hung  the body of the king of Ai on a tree  until evening, and at sunset Joshua commanded that they take his body down from the tree.  They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and put a large pile of rocks over it, which still remains today.

They took Absalom, threw him into a large pit in the forest, and raised up a huge mound of stones over him.  And all Israel fled, each to his tent.


They hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai.  Then the king’s anger subsided.


Since it was the preparation day,  the Jews did not want the bodies  to remain on the cross  on the Sabbath  (for that Sabbath was a special  day). They requested that Pilate have the men’s legs broken and that their bodies be taken away.


At once an angel of the Lord  struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.


The Lord also handed it and its king over to Israel. He struck it down, putting everyone in it to the sword, and left no survivors in it. He treated Libnah’s king as he had the king of Jericho.


At that time King Horam of Gezer went to help Lachish,  but Joshua struck him down along with his people, leaving no survivors.

but they captured the king of Ai alive and brought him to Joshua.
