When David saw the angel striking the people, he said to the Lord, ‘Look, I am the one who has sinned; I am the one  who has done wrong. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let your hand be against me and my father’s family.’


David said to God, ‘Wasn’t I the one who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has sinned and acted very wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Lord my God, please let your hand be against me and against my father’s family, but don’t let the plague be against your people.’


Your wickedness affects a person like yourself, and your righteousness, a son of man.


Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much good.


So they said to him, ‘What should we do to you so that the sea will calm down for us? ’ For the sea was getting worse and worse.


Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they couldn’t because the sea was raging against them more and more.


You’re not considering that it is to your  advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.’


and said, “Don’t be afraid, Paul. It is necessary for you to appear before Caesar. And indeed, God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.”


This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They will turn their backs and run from their enemies, because they have been set apart for destruction.  I will no longer be with you unless you remove from among you what is set apart.
