I have not departed from the commands from his lips; I have treasured  the words  from his mouth more than my daily food.


Going a little further,  he fell face down and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’


Jesus answered him, ‘Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfil all righteousness.’ Then John allowed him to be baptised.


So Jesus and his disciples got up and followed  him.


I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels   over one sinner who repents.’


For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.’


‘Why were you searching for me? ’ he asked them. ‘Didn’t you know that it was necessary for me to be in my Father’s house? ’


I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do.


After  this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished  that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, ‘I’m thirsty.’


When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’   Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.


But he said, ‘I have food to eat that you don’t know about.’


‘I can do nothing on my own. I judge only as I hear, and my judgement   is just,   because I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.


‘But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given me to accomplish.   These very works I am doing testify about me that the Father has sent   me.


For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’


For I have come down from heaven,   not to do my own will, but the will of him   who sent me.


The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone,   because I always do what pleases him.’


In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by labouring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  ’


keeping our eyes on Jesus,  the pioneer and perfecter  of our faith. For the joy that lay before him,  he endured the cross, despising the shame,  and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
