31 Since it was the preparation day,  the Jews did not want the bodies  to remain on the cross  on the Sabbath  (for that Sabbath was a special  day). They requested that Pilate have the men’s legs broken and that their bodies be taken away.

You are to hold a sacred assembly  on the first day and another sacred assembly on the seventh day. No work may be done on those days except for preparing what people need to eat #– #you may do only that.


The righteous cares about his animal’s health, but even the merciful acts of the wicked are cruel.


You eat the flesh  of my people after you strip their skin from them and break their bones. You chop them up like flesh for the cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.’


The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate


When  it was already evening, because it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),


Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.


It was the preparation day for the Passover, and it was about noon.  Then he told the Jews, ‘Here is your king! ’


They placed Jesus there because of the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby.


He hung  the body of the king of Ai on a tree  until evening, and at sunset Joshua commanded that they take his body down from the tree.  They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and put a large pile of rocks over it, which still remains today.
