No man in all Israel was as handsome  and highly praised as Absalom. From the sole of his foot to the top of his head, he did not have a single flaw.


‘The Lord asked him, “How? ” ‘He said, “I will go and become a lying spirit  in the mouth of all his prophets.” ‘Then he said, “You will certainly entice him and prevail.  Go and do that.”


But stretch out your hand and strike  everything he owns, and he will surely curse you to your face.’


A person wears out like something rotten, like a moth-eaten garment.


‘Very well,’ the Lord told Satan, ‘he is in your power; only spare his life.’


My skin blackens and flakes off, and my bones burn with fever.


My flesh is clothed with maggots and encrusted with dirt. My skin forms scabs  and then oozes.


From the sole of the foot even to the head, no spot is uninjured   – wounds, welts, and festering sores not cleansed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.


the Lord will put scabs on the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will shave their foreheads bare.


‘The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt,  tumours, a festering rash, and scabies, from which you cannot be cured.


The Lord will afflict you with painful and incurable boils on your knees and thighs #– #from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.


and blasphemed the God of heaven  because of their pains and their sores, but they did not repent of their works.
