My friends scoff at me as I weep before God.


My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow.


For the morning is like darkness to them. Surely they are familiar with the terrors of darkness!


Just as many were appalled at you   – his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being –


I weep because of these things; my eyes flow  with tears. For there is no one nearby to comfort me, no one to keep me alive. My children are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.


He said to them, ‘I am deeply grieved   to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.’
