“As surely as I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesterday” #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #“so will I repay you on this plot of land” #– #this is the Lord’s declaration. So now, according to the word of the Lord, pick him up and throw him on the plot of land.’


He releases the bonds  put on by kings and fastens a belt round their waists.


or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses  with silver.


Because God has loosened my   bowstring and oppressed me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.


God is not partial  to princes and does not favour the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands.


So they set it aside until morning as Moses commanded, and it didn’t stink or have maggots in it.


But if you refuse to let them go, then I will plague all your territory with frogs.


Righteousness will be a belt round his hips; faithfulness will be a belt round his waist.


I will clothe him with your robe and tie your sash round him. I will hand your authority over to him, and he will be like a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.


The Lord of Armies planned it, to desecrate all its glorious beauty, to disgrace all the honoured ones of the earth.


One day, while he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat.  Then his son Esar-haddon  became king in his place.


He reduces princes to nothing and makes judges of the earth like a wasteland.


The Lord says this to Cyrus, his anointed, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and disarm   kings, to open doors before him, and even city gates will not be shut:


None of them grows weary or stumbles; no one slumbers or sleeps. No belt is loose and no sandal strap broken.


I will cut off the judge  from the land and kill all its officials  with him. The Lord has spoken.


At once an angel of the Lord  struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.


Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.


Stand,  therefore, with truth  like a belt round your waist, righteousness  like armour on your chest,
