59 This is what the prophet Jeremiah commanded Seraiah son of Neriah son of Mahseiah,  the quartermaster, when he went to Babylon with King Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s reign.

But since our ancestors angered the God of the heavens, he handed them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.


In that same year, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah,  in the fifth month of the fourth year, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur from Gibeon  said to me in the temple of the Lord in the presence of the priests and all the people,


and gave the purchase agreement to Baruch  son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah. I did this in the sight of my cousin  Hanamel, the witnesses who had signed the purchase agreement, and all the Judeans sitting in the guard’s courtyard.


So Jeremiah summoned Baruch  son of Neriah. At Jeremiah’s dictation,  Baruch wrote on a scroll all the words the Lord had spoken to Jeremiah.


This is the word that the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Baruch son of Neriah  when he wrote these words on a scroll at Jeremiah’s dictation  , in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:


Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.
