Then  the angel of the Lord   went out and struck down one hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!


who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;


Then I said: Woe is me,  for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies.


And you will say to them, “This is what the Lord says: I am about to fill all who live in this land #– #the kings who reign for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the residents of Jerusalem #– #with drunkenness.


‘Then you are to say to them, “This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Drink,  get drunk, and vomit. Fall down and never get up again, as a result of the sword I am sending among you.”


As I live – this is the King’s declaration; the Lord of Armies is his name   – the king of Babylon  will come like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea.


The destroyer of Moab and its towns has come up, and the best of its young men have gone down to slaughter. This is the King’s declaration; the Lord of Armies is his name.


Therefore, her young men will fall in her public squares; all the warriors will perish in that day. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


While they are flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them drunk so that they celebrate.  , Then they will fall asleep for ever and never wake up. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


As I live #– #the declaration of the Lord God  #– #I will reign over you with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,  and outpoured wrath.


For they will be consumed like entangled thorns, like the drink of a drunkard and like straw that is fully dry.


King of Assyria, your shepherds slumber; your officers sleep. Your people are scattered across the mountains with no one to gather them together.


‘The deceiver is cursed who has an acceptable male in his flock and makes a vow but sacrifices a defective animal to the Lord.  For I am a great King,’ says the Lord of Armies, ‘and my name will be feared among the nations.


The kings of the earth who have committed sexual immorality and shared her sensual and excessive ways will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke from her burning.
