As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say,  ‘Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?’


And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.


you will sing this song of contempt about the king of Babylon  and say: How the oppressor has quietened down, and how the raging  has become quiet!


all the kings of the north, both near and far from one another; that is, all the kingdoms of the world throughout the earth. Finally, the king of Sheshak  , will drink after them.


How can the city of praise not be abandoned, the town that brings me joy?


How the hammer of the whole earth is cut down and smashed! What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!


At the sound of Babylon’s conquest the earth will quake; a cry will be heard among the nations.


Babylon will become a heap of rubble, a jackals’ den, a desolation and an object of scorn, without inhabitant.


All the inhabitants of the coasts and islands are appalled  at you. Their kings shudder with fear; their faces are contorted.


Wherever people live #– #or wild animals, or birds of the sky #– #he has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all.  You are the head of gold.


that tree is you, Your Majesty. For you have become great and strong: your greatness has grown and even reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to the ends of the earth.


the king exclaimed, ‘Is this not Babylon the Great that I have built to be a royal residence by my vast power and for my majestic glory? ’


You will become an object of horror, scorn, and ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.
