Jeremiah 51:20

Does an axe exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the ones who lift   it! It would be like a staff lifting the one who isn’t wood!

Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger – the staff in their hands is my wrath.

They are coming from a distant land, from the farthest horizon – the Lord and the weapons of his wrath – to destroy the whole country.

Have you not heard? I designed it long ago; I planned it in days gone by. I have now brought it to pass, and you have crushed fortified cities into piles of rubble.

The Lord says this to Cyrus, his anointed, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and disarm   kings, to open doors before him, and even city gates will not be shut:

Band together,  peoples, and be broken; pay attention, all you distant lands; prepare for war, and be broken; prepare for war, and be broken.

This whole land will become a desolate ruin, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.

I am going to send for all the families of the north”   #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #”and send for my servant  Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land, against its residents, and against all these surrounding nations, and I will completely destroy them and make them an example of horror  and scorn, and ruins for ever.

How the hammer of the whole earth is cut down and smashed! What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!

The sword is given to be polished, to be grasped in the hand. It is sharpened, and it is polished, to be put in the hand of the slayer.”

I will pour out my indignation on you; I will blow the fire of my fury on you. I will hand you over to brutal men, skilled at destruction.

But they do not know the  Lord’s intentions or understand his plan, that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing-floor.

Rise and thresh,  Daughter Zion, for I will make your horns iron and your hooves bronze so that you can crush many peoples. Then you  will set apart their plunder for the Lord, their wealth for the Lord of the whole earth.

One who scatters is coming up against you. Man the fortifications! Watch the road! Brace  yourself! Summon all your strength!

The cornerstone,  the tent peg, the battle bow,  and every ruler – all will go out from him together.

The king   was enraged, and he sent out his troops, killed those murderers, and burned down their city.
