He removed the people who were in the city and put them to work with saws, iron picks, and iron axes, and to labour at brickmaking.  He did the same to all the Ammonite cities. Then he and all his troops returned to Jerusalem.


and made their lives bitter with difficult labour in brick and mortar and in all kinds of fieldwork. They ruthlessly imposed all this work on them.


Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officers, his leaders, all his people,


and tell them, “This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will place his throne on these stones that I have embedded, and he will pitch his pavilion over them.


Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah at Tahpanhes:


This is what the Lord says: I am about to hand over Pharaoh Hophra,  Egypt’s king, to his enemies, to those who intend to take his life, just as I handed over Judah’s King Zedekiah  to Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar, who was his enemy, the one who intended to take his life.” ’


‘Now you, son of man, take a brick, set it in front of you, and draw the city of Jerusalem on it.


I will speak through the prophets and grant many visions; I will give parables through the prophets.


Draw water for the siege; strengthen your fortresses. Step into the clay and tread the mortar; take hold of the brick-mould!


He came to us, took Paul’s belt, tied his own feet and hands, and said, ‘This is what the Holy Spirit says: “In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him over to the Gentiles.” ’


Then a mighty angel  picked up a stone like a large millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, In this way, Babylon the great city will be thrown down violently and never be found again.
