Then the king responded to the man of God, ‘Plead for the favour of the Lord your God and pray for me  so that my hand may be restored to me.’ So the man of God pleaded for the favour of the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored to him and became as it had been at first.


Please forgive my sin once more and make an appeal to the Lord your God, so that he will just take this death away from me.’


Pharaoh responded, ‘I will let you go and sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but don’t go very far. Make an appeal  for me.’


Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, ‘Appeal  to the Lord to remove the frogs from me and my people. Then I will let the people go and they can sacrifice to the Lord.’


Make an appeal to the Lord. There has been enough of God’s thunder and hail. I will let you go;  you don’t need to stay any longer.’


The Lord said: Haven’t I set you loose for your own good? Haven’t I punished you in a time of trouble, in a time of distress with the enemy?


say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave birth to me.’ For they have turned their back to me and not their face, yet in their time of disaster  they beg, ‘Rise up and save us! ’


This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, the ones prophesying a lie to you in my name:  ‘I am about to hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and he will kill them before your very eyes.


‘This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: You  in your own name have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah  son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,


King Zedekiah later sent for him and received him, and in his house privately asked him, ‘Is there a word from the Lord? ’ ‘There is,’ Jeremiah responded. He continued, ‘You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.’


‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: This is what you will say to Judah’s king,  who is sending you to enquire of me: “Watch: Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you,  is going to return to its own land of Egypt.


Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal  son of Shelemiah,  and Pashhur son of Malchijah heard the words Jeremiah was speaking to all the people:


Then all the commanders of the armies, along with Johanan son of Kareah,  Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest,  approached


You have gone astray at the cost of your lives  because you are the ones who sent me to the Lord your God, saying, “Pray to the Lord our God on our behalf, and as for all that the Lord our God says, tell it to us, and we’ll act accordingly.”


The captain of the guards also took away Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest of the second rank, and the three doorkeepers.


The people then came to Moses and said, ‘We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Intercede with the Lord so that he will take the snakes away from us.’ And Moses interceded for the people.


‘Pray to the Lord for me,’ Simon replied, ‘so that nothing you have said may happen to me.’


They pleaded with Samuel, ‘Pray to the Lord your God for your servants  so we won’t die! For we have added to all our sins the evil of requesting a king for ourselves.’
