Jeremiah 32:23
32 Tagairtí Cros

Our guilt has been terrible from the days of our ancestors until the present. Because of our iniquities we have been handed over, along with our kings and priests, to the surrounding kings, and to the sword, captivity, plundering, and open shame,  as it is today.

You provided bread from heaven  for their hunger; you brought them water from the rock  for their thirst. You told them to go in and possess the land you had sworn  to give them.

I brought you to a fertile land to eat its fruit and bounty, but after you entered, you defiled my land; you made my inheritance   detestable.

You are to say to them, “This is what the Lord says: If you do not listen to me by living according to my instruction that I set before you

They have not become humble to this day, and they have not feared or followed my instruction or my statutes that I set before you and your ancestors.

However, my people wouldn’t listen to me or pay attention but became obstinate;  they did more evil than their ancestors.

The Lord is just, for I have rebelled against his command. Listen, all you people; look at my pain. My young women and young men have gone into captivity.

Jerusalem has sinned grievously; therefore, she has become an object of scorn. All who honoured her now despise her, for they have seen her nakedness. She herself groans and turns away.

‘ “Then I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Don’t follow the statutes of your fathers, defile yourselves with their idols, or keep their ordinances.

‘ “But the children rebelled against me.  They did not follow my statutes or carefully keep my ordinances #– #the person who does them will live by them. They also profaned my Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them and exhausting my anger against them in the wilderness.

‘ “But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. None of them threw away the abhorrent things that they prized,  and they did not abandon the idols of Egypt. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them,  exhausting my anger against them within the land of Egypt.

In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, “We are unworthy   servants; we’ve only done our duty.” ’

You are my friends if you do what I command you.

For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse,  because it is written,  Everyone who does not do everything written in the book of the law is cursed.   ,

For whoever keeps the entire law, and yet stumbles at one point, is guilty of breaking it all.

So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.

If you break the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow in worship to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly disappear from this good land he has given you.’
