when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and stress overcome you.


When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure for ever.


A pronouncement  concerning the desert by the sea: Like storms that pass over the Negev, it comes from the desert, from the land of terror.


They are barely planted, barely sown, their stem hardly takes root in the ground when he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind carries them away like stubble.


The tumult reaches to the ends of the earth because the Lord brings a case against   the nations. He enters into judgement with all humanity. As for the wicked, he hands them over to the sword – this is the  Lord’s declaration.


‘This is what the Lord of Armies says: Pay attention! Disaster spreads from nation to nation. A huge storm is stirred up from the ends of the earth.’


Look, a storm from the  Lord! Wrath has gone out, a churning storm. It will whirl about the heads of the wicked.


The Lord’s burning anger will not turn back until he has completely fulfilled the purposes of his heart. In time to come you will understand it.


‘At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A searing wind  blows from the barren heights in the wilderness on the way to my dear  people. It comes not to winnow or to sift;


This is what the Lord says: I am about to rouse the spirit of a destroyer  against Babylon and against the population of Leb-qamai.  ,


I looked, and there was a whirlwind  coming from the north, a huge cloud with fire flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the centre of the fire, there was a gleam like amber.


‘ “So this is what the Lord God says: I will release a whirlwind in my wrath. Torrential rain will come in my anger, and hailstones will fall in destructive fury.


Therefore, I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah, and it will consume its citadels. There will be shouting on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of the storm.


I scattered them with a windstorm over all the nations that had not known them, and the land was left desolate behind them, with no one coming or going. They turned a pleasant land into a desolation.’


Then the Lord will appear over them, and his arrow will fly like lightning. The Lord God will sound the ram’s horn and advance with the southern storms.
