These are the names of Ishmael’s sons; their names according to the family records are Nebaioth, Ishmael’s firstborn, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,


Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt. They held on to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, the Lord brought all this ruin on them.’

About Kedar  and the kingdoms of Hazor, which King Nebuchadnezzar  of Babylon defeated, this is what the Lord says: Rise up, attack Kedar, and destroy the people of the east!


You took some of your clothing and made colourful high places for yourself, and you engaged in prostitution on them. These places should not have been built, and this should never have happened!


Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your business partners, trading with you in lambs, rams, and goats.


They made your oars of oaks from Bashan. They made your deck of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus, inlaid with ivory.


‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Because you have been more insubordinate than the nations around you   #– #you have not walked in my statutes or kept my ordinances; you have not even kept the ordinances of the nations around you #– #


Then he will turn his attention to the coasts and islands  , and capture many. But a commander will put an end to his taunting; instead, he will turn his taunts against him.


Ships of Kittim  , will come against him and, being intimidated, he will withdraw. Then he will rage against the holy covenant and take action. On his return, he will favour those who abandon the holy covenant.


Ships will come from the coast of Kittim; they will carry out raids against Asshur and Eber, but they too will come to destruction.


It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality  among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated  among the Gentiles   #– #a man is sleeping with his father’s wife.


Everyone who saw it said, ‘Nothing like this has ever happened or has been seen since the day the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt until now.  Think it over, discuss it, and speak up! ’
