25 kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city. They will sit on the throne of David;  they will ride in chariots and on horses  with their officials, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem. This city will be inhabited for ever.

Your house and kingdom will endure before me  for ever,  and your throne will be established for ever.” ’


David captured one thousand seven hundred horsemen  and twenty thousand foot soldiers from him, and he hamstrung all the horses  and kept a hundred chariots.


‘This day is to be a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a festival to the Lord. You are to celebrate it throughout your generations as a permanent statute.


The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.


And you will say to them, “This is what the Lord says: I am about to fill all who live in this land #– #the kings who reign for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the residents of Jerusalem #– #with drunkenness.


You are to say, “Hear the word of the Lord, king of Judah, you who sit on the throne of David   #– #you, your officers, and your people who enter these gates.


This is what the Lord says: Record this man as childless, a man who will not be successful in his lifetime. None of his descendants will succeed in sitting on the throne of David or ruling again in Judah.


For if you conscientiously carry out this word, then kings sitting on David’s throne will enter through the gates of this palace  riding on chariots and horses #– #they, their officers, and their people.


He announced, “Turn, each of you, from your evil way of life and from your evil deeds.  Live in the land the Lord gave to you and your ancestors long ago and for ever.


In those days and at that time I will cause a Righteous Branch to sprout up for David, and he will administer justice and righteousness in the land.


‘For this is what the Lord says: David will never fail to have a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel.


then also my covenant with my servant David  may be broken. If that could happen, then he would not have a son reigning on his throne and the Levitical priests would not be my ministers.


‘ “This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Correct your ways and your actions,  and I will allow you to live in this place.


I will allow you to live in this place, the land I gave to your ancestors  long ago and for ever.


However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the Lord has told you, “You are never to go back that way again.”


Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels, a festive gathering,


He said, ‘These are the rights of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and put them to his use in his chariots, on his horses, or running in front of his chariots.
