He breaks through my defences again and again; he charges at me like a warrior.

‘Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them  or I will cause you to cower before them.

But, Lord of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests  heart  and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for I have presented my case to you.

As for you, Lord, you know me; you see me. You test whether my heart is with you. Drag the wicked away like sheep to slaughter and set them apart for the day of killing.

You are to speak this word to them: Let my eyes overflow with tears; day and night may they not stop, for my dearest people have been destroyed by a crushing blow, an extremely severe wound.

I will first repay them double for their iniquity  and sin because they have polluted my land. They have filled my inheritance with the carcasses of their abhorrent and detestable idols.’

Lord, the hope of Israel, all who abandon you will be put to shame. All who turn away from me will be written in the dirt, for they have abandoned the Lord, the fountain of living water.

But I have not run away from being your shepherd, and I have not longed for the fatal day. You know my words were spoken in your presence.

This is what the Lord said to me, ‘Go and stand at the People’s Gate, through which the kings of Judah enter and leave, as well as at all the gates of Jerusalem.

But the Lord is with me like a violent warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly shamed, an everlasting humiliation that will never be forgotten.

Lord, bless his possessions, and accept the work of his hands. Break the back  of his adversaries and enemies, so that they cannot rise again.

Pay her back the way she also paid, and double it according to her works. In the cup in which she mixed, mix a double portion for her.
