22 Can any of the worthless idols of the nations  bring rain? Or can the skies alone give showers? Are you not the  Lord our God? We therefore put our hope in you, for you have done all these things.

Now Elijah  the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers,  , said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord God of Israel lives,  in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command! ’


for this is what the Lord God of Israel says, “The flour jar will not become empty and the oil jug will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the surface of the land.” ’


After a long time, the word of the Lord   came to Elijah in the third year:  ‘Go and present yourself to Ahab.  I will send rain on the surface of the land.’


may you hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel, so that you may teach them to walk on the good way. May you send rain on your land that you gave your people for an inheritance.


when he established a limit  for the rain and a path for the lightning,


He gives rain to the earth and sends water to the fields.


Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God. All who wait patiently for him are happy.


Then he will send rain for your seed that you have sown in the ground, and the food, the produce of the ground, will be rich and plentiful. On that day your cattle will graze in open pastures.


Look, all of them are a delusion; their works are non-existent; their images are wind and emptiness.


He made the earth by his power, established the world  by his wisdom, and spread out the heavens by his understanding.


When he thunders, the waters in the heavens are in turmoil, and he causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings the wind from his storehouses.


They are worthless, a work to be mocked. At the time of their punishment they will be destroyed.


for the customs of the peoples are worthless. Someone cuts down a tree from the forest; it is worked by the hands of a craftsman with a chisel.


Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in a time of distress, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and they will say, ‘Our ancestors inherited only lies, worthless idols  of no benefit at all.’


They have contradicted the  Lord and insisted, ‘It won’t happen.  , Harm won’t come to us; we won’t see sword or famine.’


They have not said to themselves, “Let’s fear the  Lord our God, who gives the seasonal rains, both autumn and spring, who guarantees to us the fixed weeks of the harvest.”


When he thunders, the waters in the heavens are tumultuous, and he causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings the wind from his storehouses.


She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will think, ‘I will go back to my former husband, for then it was better for me than now.’


Children of Zion,  rejoice and be glad in the Lord your God, because he gives you the autumn rain for your vindication.  , He sends showers for you, both autumn and spring rain  as before.


I also withheld the rain from you while there were still three months until harvest. I sent rain on one city but no rain on another. One field received rain while a field with no rain withered.


They will shepherd  the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod  with a drawn blade. So he will rescue us  from Assyria when it invades our land, when it marches against our territory.


But I will look to the  Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.


so that you may be   children of your Father in heaven. For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.


The Lord will open for you his abundant storehouse,  the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands.  You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.


They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.
