‘Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite,’ he replied. ‘I told him, “Give me your vineyard for silver, or if you wish, I will give you a vineyard in its place.” But he said, “I won’t give you my vineyard! ” ’


Such are the paths of all who make profit dishonestly; it takes the lives of those who receive it.


There is a person without a companion,  without even a son or brother, and though there is no end to all his struggles, his eyes are still not content with riches.  ‘Who am I struggling for,’ he asks, ‘and depriving myself of good things? ’ This too is futile and a miserable task.


But Ahaz replied, ‘I will not ask. I will not test the Lord.’


Moreover, wine   betrays; an arrogant man is never at rest. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and like Death he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself; he collects all the peoples for himself.


Until now you have asked for nothing in my name.   Ask and you will receive,   so that your joy may be complete.


Jesus answered, ‘If you knew the gift of God,   and who is saying to you, “Give me a drink,” you would ask him, and he would give you living water.’


Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God #– #who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly #– #and it will be given to him.


You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous, who does not resist you.


Everyone who hates his brother or sister  is a murderer,  and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
