For the company of the godless  will have no children, and fire will consume the tents of those who offer bribes.


Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned  the  Lord; they have despised  the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on him.


to keep the poor from getting a fair trial and to deprive the needy among my people of justice, so that widows can be their spoil and they can plunder the fatherless.


There will be nothing to do except crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


I will send him against a godless nation; I will command him to go against a people destined for my rage, to take spoils, to plunder, and to trample them down like clay  in the streets.


Their bows will cut young men to pieces. They will have no compassion on offspring; they will not look with pity on children.


You will not join them in burial, because you destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of evildoers will never be mentioned again.


The earth is polluted by its inhabitants, for they have transgressed teachings, overstepped decrees, and broken the permanent covenant.


When its branches dry out, they will be broken off. Women will come and make fires with them, for they are not a people with understanding. Therefore their Maker  will not have compassion on them, and their Creator will not be gracious to them.


For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen because they have spoken and acted against the  Lord, defying his glorious presence.


But he also is wise and brings disaster. He does not go back on what he says; he will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers.


Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the Lord raises his hand to strike, the helper will stumble and the one who is helped will fall; both will perish together.


You will conceive chaff; you will give birth to stubble. Your breath is fire that will consume you.


The peoples will be burned to ashes, like thorns cut down and burned in a fire.


Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall,


Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes straw and as dry grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will become like something rotten and their blossoms will blow away like dust, for they have rejected the instruction of the  Lord of Armies, and they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.


Therefore the Lord’s anger burned  against his people. He raised his hand against them and struck them; the mountains quaked, and their corpses were like rubbish in the streets. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.


I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people. The sound of weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her.


Aram from the east and Philistia from the west have consumed Israel with open mouths. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


Manasseh eats Ephraim, and Ephraim, Manasseh; together, both are against Judah. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


Therefore, hand their children over to famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widowed, their husbands slain by deadly disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.


Roam  through the streets of Jerusalem. Investigate; search in her squares. If you find one person, any who acts justly, who pursues faithfulness, then I will forgive her.


As I live #– #the declaration of the Lord God  #– #I will reign over you with a strong hand, an outstretched arm,  and outpoured wrath.


I sent plagues like those of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I caused the stench of your camp to fill your nostrils, yet you did not return to me. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


In that day the beautiful young women, the young men also, will faint from thirst.


Faithful people have vanished from the land; there is no one upright among the people. All of them wait in ambush to shed blood; they hunt each other with a net.


How lovely and beautiful! Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine, the young women.


Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow   of the heart.


And in the morning, “Today will be stormy because the sky is red and threatening.” You   know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can’t read the signs of the times.
