He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet.


Your holy people had a possession for a little while, but our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.


If only you would tear the heavens open and come down, so that mountains would quake at your presence   –


‘I was sought by those who did not ask; I was found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that did not call on   my name.


Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t recognise you and on the families that don’t call on your name, for they have consumed Jacob; they have consumed him and finished him off and made his homeland desolate.


Why are you like a helpless man, like a warrior unable to save? Yet you are among us, Lord, and we bear your name. Don’t leave us!


Listen closely,  my God, and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations and the city that bears your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before you based on our righteous acts, but based on your abundant compassion.


Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and act! My God, for your own sake, do not delay,  because your city and your people bear your name.


so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name  ,  – this is the declaration of the  Lord; he will do this.


In past generations he allowed all the nations  to go their own way,


so that the rest of humanity may seek the Lord – even all the Gentiles who are called by my name – declares the Lord who makes these things


They are Israelites,  and to them belong the adoption,  the glory,  the covenants,  the giving of the law,  the temple service,  and the promises.


At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise,  without hope  and without God in the world.


Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you bear the Lord’s name,  and they will stand in awe of you.


Lord, when you came from Seir, when you marched from the fields of Edom, the earth trembled, the skies poured   rain, and the clouds poured water.


The mountains melted before the  Lord, even Sinai,  before the  Lord, the God of Israel.
