Better what the eyes see than wandering desire.  This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.  ,


Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned  the  Lord; they have despised  the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on him.


Their  , land is full of silver and gold, and there is no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses, and there is no limit to their chariots.


Who gave Jacob to the robber, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the  Lord? Have we not sinned against him? They were not willing to walk in his ways, and they would not listen to his instruction.


Yes, you are a God who hides, God of Israel, Saviour.


These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own profit.


Lord, do not be terribly angry or remember our iniquity for ever. Please look #– #all of us are your people!


One person slaughters an ox, another kills a person; one person sacrifices a lamb, another breaks a dog’s neck; one person offers a grain offering, another offers pig’s blood; one person offers incense, another praises an idol – all these have chosen their ways and delight in their abhorrent practices.


I will wait for the  Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will wait for him.


The people did not turn to him who struck them; they did not seek the  Lord of Armies.


I have struck down your children in vain; they would not accept discipline. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a ravaging lion.


But you have eyes and a heart for nothing except your own dishonest profit, shedding innocent blood and committing extortion and oppression.


‘ “Return, you faithless children   #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #for I am your master,  , and I will take you,  one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.


Return, you faithless children. I will heal your unfaithfulness. ‘Here we are, coming to you, for you are the  Lord our God.


Lord, don’t your eyes look for faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.


You who reside by abundant water, rich in treasures, your end has come, your life thread is cut.


For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


Therefore, I will give  their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


I have paid careful attention. They do not speak what is right. No one regrets his evil, asking, “What have I done? ” Everyone has stayed his course like a horse rushing into battle.


So my people come to you in crowds,  sit in front of you, and hear your words, but they don’t obey them. Their mouths go on passionately, but their hearts pursue dishonest profit.


He then told them, ‘Watch out and be on your guard   against all greed,   because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.’


Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,  lust,  evil desire, and greed,  which is idolatry.


But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.


They have eyes full of adultery  that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!


They will exploit  you in their greed  with made-up stories. Their condemnation,  pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.
