When the Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time,


So he went out to meet Asa and said to him, ‘Asa and all Judah and Benjamin, hear me. The Lord is with you  when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you,  but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.


but when they turned to the Lord God of Israel in their distress and sought him, he was found by them.


So the couriers  went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the hand of the king and his officials, and according to the king’s command, saying, ‘Israelites, return to the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel so that he may return to those of you who remain, who have escaped the grasp of the kings of Assyria.


He prayed to him, and the Lord was receptive to his prayer. He granted his request  and brought him back to Jerusalem, to his kingdom. So Manasseh came to know that the Lord is God.


and my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.


If you return  to the Almighty, you will be renewed. If you banish injustice from your tent


The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.


If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.


For the Lord will have compassion  on Jacob and will choose Israel again.  He will settle them on their own land.  The resident foreigner will join them and be united with the house of Jacob.


The watchman said, ‘Morning has come, and also night. If you want to ask, ask! Come back again.’


Return to the one the Israelites have greatly rebelled against.


The scoundrel’s weapons are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the needy with lies, even when the poor person says what is right.


‘Speak tenderly to   Jerusalem, and announce to her that her time of hard service is over, her iniquity  has been pardoned, and she has received from the  Lord’s hand double for all her sins.’


‘I am the one, I sweep away your transgressions for my own sake and remember your sins no more.


I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like a mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.


Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace  will not be shaken,’ says your compassionate Lord.


In a surge of anger I hid my face  from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting love,’ says the Lord your Redeemer.


Isn’t this the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke?


Their feet run after evil, and they rush to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and wretchedness are in their paths.


‘ “Return, you faithless children   #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #for I am your master,  , and I will take you,  one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.


This is why the showers haven’t come   – why there has been no spring rain. You have the brazen look  of a prostitute and refuse to be ashamed.


Wash the evil from your heart,   Jerusalem, so that you will be delivered. How long will you harbour malicious thoughts?


Let’s examine and probe our ways, and turn back to the  Lord.


‘Therefore, say to the house of Israel, “This is what the Lord God says: Repent and turn away  from your idols; turn your faces away from all your detestable things.


Tell them, “As I live #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked person should turn from his way and live.  Repent, repent of your evil ways! Why will you die, house of Israel? ”


Therefore, may my advice seem good to you, my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right,  and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy.  Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.’


God saw their actions #– #that they had turned from their evil ways   #– #so God relented from the disaster  he had threatened them with. And he did not do it.


Do not plot evil  in your hearts against your neighbour,  and do not love perjury,  for I hate all this’ #– #this is the Lord’s declaration.


Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice.   , For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.’


For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities,   thefts, murders,


All these evil things come from within and defile a person.’


I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels   over one sinner who repents.’


because this son of mine was dead and is alive again;   he was lost and is found! ” So they began to celebrate.


Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.’


Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance.


Therefore repent  and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out,


Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
