and as I did to Samaria and its worthless images will I not also do to Jerusalem and its idols? ’


But this is not what he intends; this is not what he plans. It is his intent to destroy and to cut off many nations.


Have I attacked this land to destroy it without the Lord’s approval? The Lord said to me, “Attack this land and destroy it.” ’


Don’t let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on the Lord, saying, “The Lord will certainly rescue us! This city will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.” ’


until I come and take you away to a land like your own land #– #a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.


Suppose you say to me, “We rely on the Lord our God.” Isn’t he the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, “You are to worship at this altar”?


‘Say this to King Hezekiah of Judah: “Don’t let your God, on whom you rely, deceive you  by promising that Jerusalem won’t be handed over to the king of Assyria.


Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries: they completely destroyed them. Will you be rescued?


Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all the words of the royal spokesman, whom his master the king of Assyria sent to mock the living God,  and will rebuke him for the words that the Lord your God has heard. Therefore offer a prayer for the surviving remnant.” ’


Therefore the cedar became greater in height than all the trees of the field. Its branches multiplied, and its boughs grew long as it spread them out because of the abundant water.


Now if you’re ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire #– #and who is the god who can rescue you from my power? ’
