Parts of his skin are eaten away; death’s firstborn consumes his limbs.


but he will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with a sceptre  from his mouth, and he will kill the wicked with a command  from his lips.


The humble will have joy after joy in the  Lord, and the poor people will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.


The Lord brings this charge against the elders and leaders of his people: ‘You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses.


Why do you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor? ’ This is the declaration of the Lord  God of Armies.


he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be the rocky fortresses, his food provided, his water assured.


‘ “This will be the sign for you:  This year you will eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what grows from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.


Lambs will graze as if in  their own pastures, and resident foreigners  will eat among the ruins of the rich.


These two things have happened to you: devastation and destruction, famine and sword. Who will grieve for you? How can I  comfort you?


They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upwards, will curse their king and their God.


They carve meat on the right, but they are still hungry; they have eaten on the left, but they are still not satisfied. Each one eats the flesh of his arm.


I will leave a meek and humble people  among you, and they will take refuge in the name of the  Lord.
