He said: Lord, God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven,  and do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations?  Power and might are in your hand, and no one can stand against you.


If he passes by and throws someone in prison or convenes a court, who can stop him?


But he is unchangeable; who can oppose him? He does what he desires.


Would you really challenge my justice? Would you declare me guilty  to justify yourself?


I  know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted.


If he snatches something, who can stop   him? Who can ask him, ‘What are you doing? ’


Many plans are in a person’s heart, but the  Lord’s decree will prevail.


No wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel will prevail against the  Lord.


The Lord of Armies planned it, to desecrate all its glorious beauty, to disgrace all the honoured ones of the earth.


Also, from today on I am he alone, and none can rescue from my power. I act, and who can reverse it? ’


I call a bird of prey  from the east, a man for my purpose from a far country. Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about. I have planned it; I will also do it.


Devise a plan; it will fail. Make a prediction; it will not happen. For God is with us.  ,


Aram from the east and Philistia from the west have consumed Israel with open mouths. In all this, his anger has not turned away, and his hand is still raised to strike.


Because of this, the earth will mourn; the skies above will grow dark. I have spoken; I have planned, and I will not relent or turn back from it.’


Those who escape the sword will return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah only few in number,  and the whole remnant of Judah, the ones going to the land of Egypt to stay there for a while, will know whose word stands, mine or theirs!


Therefore, hear the plans that the Lord has drawn up against Edom and the strategies he has devised against the people of Teman:  The flock’s little lambs will certainly be dragged away,  and their grazing land will be made desolate because of them.


This is what the prophet Jeremiah commanded Seraiah son of Neriah son of Mahseiah,  the quartermaster, when he went to Babylon with King Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s reign.


I will turn you into a bare rock, and you will be a place to spread nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the Lord, have spoken.’  This is the declaration of the Lord God.


We know that all things work together  for the good  of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.


What, then, are we to say about these things?  If God is for us, who is against us?
