Let us walk with decency,  as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness;  not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarrelling and jealousy.

Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit,  to strive together with me in prayers to God on my behalf.

Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony  of our conscience  is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially towards you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom  but by God’s grace.

At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door  to us for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ,  for which I am in chains,

so that you may behave properly  in the presence of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.  ,

Brothers and sisters, pray for us also.

In addition, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured, just as it was with you,

Now the goal of our instruction is love  that comes from a pure heart,  a good conscience,  and a sincere faith.

Conduct  yourselves honourably among the Gentiles,  so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits.

Yet do this with gentleness and reverence, keeping a clear conscience,  so that when you are accused,  those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame.

Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not as the removal of dirt from the body,  but the pledge  of a good conscience towards God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
