Again, I observed all the acts of oppression being done under the sun.  Look at the tears of those who are oppressed; they have no one to comfort them. Power is with those who oppress them; they have no one to comfort them.

If you see oppression of the poor  and perversion of justice and righteousness in the province, don’t be astonished at the situation,  because one official protects another official, and higher officials protect them.

Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man who incites dispute and conflict in all the land. I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.

Why did I come out of the womb to see only struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?

For whenever I speak, I cry out, I proclaim, ‘Violence and destruction! ’ So the word of the  Lord has become my constant disgrace and derision.

‘But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them and do not be afraid of their words,  even though briars and thorns are beside you and you live among scorpions.  Don’t be afraid of their words or discouraged by the look on their faces, for they are a rebellious house.

‘Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

(for as that righteous man lived among them day by day, his righteous soul was tormented by the lawless deeds he saw and heard  ) #– #
