While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:


Benjamin is a wolf; he tears his prey. In the morning he devours the prey, and in the evening he divides the plunder.’


Then he commanded them, ‘I am about to be gathered to my people.  Bury me with my ancestors  in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hethite.


Elijah took twelve stones #– #according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, ‘Israel will be your name’   #– #


The king’s edict gave the Jews in each and every city the right to assemble and defend themselves, to destroy, kill, and annihilate every ethnic and provincial army hostile to them, including women and children, and to take their possessions as spoils of war.


King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, ‘Look, I have given Haman’s estate to Esther,  and he was hanged on the gallows because he attacked  the Jews.


On the twenty-third day of the third month  #– #that is, the month Sivan #– #the royal scribes were summoned. Everything was written exactly as Mordecai  commanded for the Jews, to the satraps,  the governors, and the officials of the 127 provinces from India to Cush.  The edict was written for each province in its own script, for each ethnic group in its own language,  and to the Jews in their own script and language.


The twelve stones are to correspond to the names of Israel’s sons. Each stone must be engraved like a seal, with one of the names of the twelve tribes.


A people rise up like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion. They will not lie down until they devour the prey and drink the blood of the slain.


the promise our twelve tribes hope to reach as they earnestly serve him night and day. King Agrippa, I am being accused by the Jews because of this hope.


This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave the Israelites before his death.
