Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt. They were born to him by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, a priest at On.


Some time after this, Joseph was told, ‘Your father is weaker.’ So he set out with his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.


Children born to you after them will be yours and will be recorded under the names of their brothers with regard to their inheritance.


Now this is what the Lord  says – the one who created you, Jacob, and the one who formed you, Israel   – ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.


‘ “Then I passed by you and saw you, and you were indeed at the age for love. So I spread the edge of my garment over you and covered your nakedness.  I pledged myself to you,  entered into a covenant with you #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #and you became mine.


This is what the Lord God says: ‘This is  the border you will use to divide the land  as an inheritance for the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph will receive two shares.


You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be mine.


‘They will be mine,’ says the Lord of Armies,  ‘my own possession on the day I am preparing. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him.


from the sons of Joseph: Elishama son of Ammihud from Ephraim, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur from Manasseh;


And I will be a Father   to you, and you will be sons   and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.   ,


He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,


By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and he worshipped, leaning on the top of his staff.   ,


Therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.’


The descendants of Joseph became two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. No portion of the land was given to the Levites except cities to live in, along with pasturelands for their cattle and livestock.
