7 Jacob’s sons returned from the field when they heard about the incident. They were deeply grieved and very angry, for Shechem had committed an outrage against Israel by raping Jacob’s daughter,  and such a thing should not be done.

Then Abimelech called Abraham in and said to him, ‘What have you done to us? How did I sin against you that you have brought such enormous guilt on me and on my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.’


Meanwhile, Shechem’s father Hamor came to speak with Jacob.


Hamor said to Jacob’s sons, ‘My son Shechem has his heart set on your  daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.


His sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters, indeed all his offspring, he brought with him to Egypt.


When King David heard about all these things, he was furious.


I saw among the inexperienced, I noticed among the youths, a young man lacking sense.


because they have committed an outrage  in Israel by committing adultery with their neighbours’ wives and have spoken in my name a lie, which I did not command them. I am he who knows, and I am a witness.’ This is the Lord’s declaration.


‘Now if the whole community of Israel  errs,  and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly,  so that they violate any of the Lord’s commands and incur guilt  by doing what is prohibited,


‘Tell the Israelites: When someone sins unintentionally  against any of the Lord’s commands and does anything prohibited by them –


‘Now if any of the common people  sins unintentionally by violating one of the Lord’s commands, does what is prohibited, and incurs guilt,


Let us not commit sexual immorality  as some of them did,  and in a single day twenty-three thousand people died.


Flee  sexual immorality! Every other sin  a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral  sins against his own body.


But sexual immorality  and any impurity  or greed  should not even be heard of  among you, as is proper for saints.


But if this accusation is true and no evidence of the young woman’s virginity is found,


they will bring the woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an outrage in Israel by being promiscuous while living in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from you.


‘No Israelite woman is to be a cult prostitute, and no Israelite man is to be a cult prostitute.


Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,  lust,  evil desire, and greed,  which is idolatry.


At the same time, they also learn to be idle, going from house to house; they are not only idle, but are also gossips  and busybodies, saying things they shouldn’t say.


Marriage is to be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.


Blessing and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.


The one who is caught with the things set apart must be burned, along with everything he has, because he has violated the Lord’s covenant and committed an outrage in Israel.’


But you are a chosen race,   ,, a royal priesthood,   , a holy nation,   , a people for his possession,   , so that you may proclaim the praises   ,, of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.


Then I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout Israel’s territory, because they have committed a wicked outrage in  Israel.
