Please rescue me from my brother Esau, for I am afraid of him; otherwise, he may come and attack me, the mothers, and their children.


Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the territory of Edom.


He thought, ‘If Esau comes to one camp and attacks it, the remaining one can escape.’


Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming towards him with four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two slave women.


We must get up and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to the God who answered me in my day of distress.  He has been with me everywhere I have gone.’


As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians coming after them! The Israelites were terrified and cried out  to the Lord for help.


Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you.


His God teaches him order; he instructs him.


‘Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.


He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you of little faith? ’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea,  and there was a great calm.


I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.’


strengthening the  disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith  and by telling them, ‘It is necessary to go through many hardships  to enter the kingdom of God.’


He comforts us in all our affliction,  so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.


In fact, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
