David had arrived at Mahanaim by the time Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.


Abner son of Ner and soldiers of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.


Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army,  took Saul’s son Ish-bosheth  , and moved him to Mahanaim.


‘Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim.  But he came down to meet me at the River Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, “I will never kill you with the sword.”

Then Elisha prayed, ‘Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.’ So the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire  all around Elisha.

From the tribe of Gad they gave: Ramoth in Gilead, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands,


‘Neither,’ he replied. ‘I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.’ Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in homage  and asked him, ‘What does my lord want to say to his servant? ’
