God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed.  Evening came and then morning: the sixth day.


On the seventh  day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested  on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.


These are the records  of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation. At the time  that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,


You revealed your holy Sabbath to them, and gave them commands, statutes, and instruction through your servant Moses.


‘Do your work  for six days but rest on the seventh day so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave as well as the resident foreigner may be refreshed.


‘You are to labour six days but you must rest  on the seventh day; you must even rest during ploughing and harvesting times.


The Lord’s blessing enriches, and he adds no painful effort to it.  ,


I also gave them my Sabbaths to serve as a sign between me and them,  so that they would know that I am the Lord who consecrates them.


‘Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there is to be a Sabbath of complete rest,  a sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; it is a Sabbath  to the Lord wherever you live.


Then he told them, ‘The Sabbath was made for   man and not man for the Sabbath.


Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes.  And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
