So Abraham took his son Ishmael and those born in his household or purchased #– #every male among the members of Abraham’s household #– #and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that very day, just as God had said to him.


When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.


But any slave a man has purchased may eat it, after you have circumcised him.


Do the same with your cattle and your flock. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to me.


The flesh of his foreskin  must be circumcised  on the eighth day.


When they came to circumcise the child on the eighth day,  they were going to name him Zechariah, after his father.


When the eight days were completed for his circumcision,  he was named Jesus   #– #the name given by the angel before he was conceived.


And so he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. After this, he fathered Isaac and circumcised  him on the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.


For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly,  and true circumcision is not something visible in the flesh.
