And Shem, Japheth’s elder brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber.


These are the family records  of Shem. Shem lived for 100 years and fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood.


He also said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; Let Canaan be  Shem’s slave.


King Pul  , of Assyria invaded the land, so Menahem gave Pul 35 tonnes  of silver so that Pul would support him to strengthen his grasp on the kingdom.


That messenger was still speaking when yet another came and reported, ‘The Chaldeans formed three bands, made a raid on the camels, and took them away. They struck down the servants with the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you! ’

Elam took up a quiver with chariots and horsemen, and Kir  uncovered the shield.


I will establish a sign among them, and I will send survivors from them to the nations #– #to Tarshish, Put,  Lud (who are archers), Tubal, Javan,  and the coasts and islands far away #– #who have not heard about me or seen my glory. And they will proclaim my glory among the nations.

‘Elam  is there with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword – those who went down to the underworld uncircumcised, who once spread their terror in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.


I saw the vision, and as I watched, I was in the fortress city of Susa,  in the province of Elam.  I saw in the vision that I was beside the Ulai Canal.


Balaam proclaimed his poem: Balak brought me from Aram; the king of Moab, from the eastern mountains: ‘Come, put a curse on Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel! ’


Kain will be destroyed when Asshur takes you captive.
