‘Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them  or I will cause you to cower before them.


Jonah got up to flee to Tarshish  from the Lord’s presence.  He went down  to Joppa  and found a ship going to Tarshish. He paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the Lord’s presence.


Then God asked Jonah, ‘Is it right for you to be angry about the plant? ’ ‘Yes, it’s right! ’ he replied. ‘I’m angry enough to die! ’


But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Because you did not trust me to demonstrate my holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.’


Jesus turned and told Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns   but human concerns.’


and he brought Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, he said, ‘You are Simon, son of John.   You will be called Cephas’   (which is translated ‘Peter’  ).


Now those who had been scattered as a result of the persecution that started because of Stephen made their way as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch,  speaking the word to no one except Jews.


But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks  also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.


News about them reached  the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel  as far as Antioch.


In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.


Some men  came down from Judea and began to teach the brothers, ‘Unless you are circumcised  according to the custom prescribed by Moses,  you cannot be saved.’


But some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, ‘It is necessary to circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses.’


Now I consider myself in no way inferior to those ‘super-apostles’,


I have been a fool; you forced it on me. You ought to have commended me, since I am not in any way inferior to those ‘super-apostles’, even though I am nothing.


From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective.  Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective,  yet now we no longer know him in this way.


Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem  to get to know Cephas,  , and I stayed with him for fifteen days.


But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas  in front of everyone, ‘If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile  and not like a Jew,  how can you compel Gentiles to live  like Jews? ’


But we did not give up and submit to these people for even a moment, so that the truth  of the gospel would be preserved for you.


On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised,  just as Peter  was for the circumcised,


When James,  Cephas,  , and John   #– #those recognised as pillars   #– #acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to me and Barnabas, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.


Publicly rebuke those who sin, so that the rest will be afraid.


For we all stumble in many ways.  If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is mature, able also to control the whole body.


Dear friends, although I was eager to write to you about the salvation we share,  I found it necessary to write, appealing to you to contend for the faith  that was delivered  to the saints once for all.
