Any of his people among you, may his God be with him, and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah and build the house of the Lord, the God of Israel,  the God who is in Jerusalem.


Let it be known to the king that the Jews who came from you have returned to us at Jerusalem. They are rebuilding that rebellious and evil city, finishing its walls, and repairing its foundations.


From Rehum  the chief officer, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their colleagues #– #the judges and magistrates  from Tripolis, Persia, Erech, Babylon, Susa  (that is, the people of Elam),


This is the text of the letter that Tattenai the governor of the region west of the River Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their colleagues, the officials in the region, sent to King Darius.


So we questioned the elders and asked, ‘Who gave you the order to rebuild this temple and finish this structure? ’

I, King Artaxerxes, issue a decree to all the treasurers in the region west of the River Euphrates: Whatever Ezra the priest, an expert in the law of the God of the heavens, asks of you must be provided in full,


In the second year of King Darius,  , on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet  Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,  the governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest:


When he entered the temple,  the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, ‘By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority? ’
