so they affirmed the proposal and spread the message throughout all Israel, from Beer-sheba to Dan,  to come to observe the Passover of the Lord, the God of Israel in Jerusalem, for they hadn’t observed it often,  as prescribed.


In  the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfil the word of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah,  the Lord roused the spirit  of King Cyrus to issue a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom and to put it in writing:


Ezra then went from the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib, where he spent the night.  He did not eat food or drink water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.


Whoever did not come within three days would forfeit all his possessions,  according to the decision of the leaders and elders, and would be excluded  from the assembly of the exiles.
