Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside, and he warned them, ‘Whoever allows any of the men I am placing in your hands to escape will forfeit his life for theirs.’


Then God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but when the angel was about to destroy the city,  the Lord looked, relented concerning the destruction,  and said to the angel who was destroying the people, ‘Enough, withdraw your hand now! ’ The angel of the Lord was then standing at the threshing-floor of Ornan  the Jebusite.


When the Lord passes through to strike Egypt and sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, he will pass over the door and not let the destroyer enter your houses to strike you.


Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me.


Lift up a signal flag towards Zion. Run for cover! Don’t stand still! For I am bringing disaster from the north – a crushing blow.


The vision I saw  was like the one I had seen when he  came to destroy the city,  and like the ones I had seen by the Chebar Canal.  I fell face down.


He spoke with a loud voice:  ‘Fear God  and give him glory,  because the hour of his judgement has come.  Worship the one who made heaven and earth,  the sea and the springs of water.’
