King Jehoiachin of Judah, along with his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials,  surrendered to the king of Babylon. So the king of Babylon took him captive in the eighth year of his reign.


In the ninth year of King Zedekiah of Judah, in the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem with his entire army and laid siege to it.


In the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem with his entire army. They laid siege to the city and built a siege wall against it all round.


On the fifth day of the month #– #it was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s exile   #– #


In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, some of Israel’s elders came to enquire of the Lord,  and they sat down in front of me.


They will punish you for your depravity,  and you will bear the consequences for your sins of idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Lord God.’


‘Son of man, write down today’s date, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.

The Lord of Armies says this: ‘The fast of the fourth month,  the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth  will become times of joy, gladness, and cheerful festivals for the house of Judah. Therefore, love truth and peace.’
