The fig tree ripens its figs; the blossoming vines give off their fragrance. Arise, my darling. Come away, my beautiful one.


Catch the foxes for us   – the little foxes that ruin the vineyards – for our vineyards are in bloom.


I came down to the walnut grove to see the blossoms of the valley, to see if the vines were budding and the pomegranates blooming.


Let’s go early to the vineyards; let’s see if the vine has budded, if the blossom has opened, if the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my caresses.


Rejoice, heavens,  for the  Lord has acted; shout, depths of the earth. Break out into singing, mountains, forest, and every tree in it. For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorifies himself through Israel.


I planted you, a choice vine from the very best seed. How then could you turn into a degenerate, foreign vine?


Then the word of the Lord came to me:


Can wood be taken from it to make something useful? Or can anyone make a peg from it to hang things on?


But it was uprooted in fury, thrown to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branches were torn off and dried up; fire consumed them.


Israel is a lush   vine; it yields fruit for itself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better they made the sacred pillars.


Therefore, because of you, Zion will be ploughed like a field, Jerusalem will become ruins, and the temple’s mountain will be a high thicket.


Wail, cypress,  for the cedar has fallen; the glorious trees are destroyed! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the stately forest has fallen!
