So the Egyptians assigned taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labour.  They built Pithom and Rameses as supply cities  for Pharaoh.


Then the Lord said, ‘I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out  because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,


Go and get straw yourselves wherever you can find it, but there will be no reduction at all in your workload.” ’


That day Pharaoh commanded the overseers  of the people as well as their foremen,


Impose heavier work on the men. Then they will be occupied with it and not pay attention to deceptive words.’


If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials will be wicked.


A pronouncement  concerning the animals of the Negev: Through a land of trouble and distress, of lioness and lion, of viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people who will not help them.
