So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were going to marry his daughters. ‘Get up,’ he said. ‘Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city! ’  But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.


Abimelech replied, ‘I don’t know who did this thing. You didn’t report anything to me, so I hadn’t heard about it until today.’


But he refused. ‘Look,’ he said to his master’s wife, ‘with me here my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he owns under my authority.


‘What have you done? ’ Joseph said to them. ‘Didn’t you know that a man like me could uncover the truth by divination? ’


They had not gone very far from the city when Joseph said to his steward, ‘Get up. Pursue the men, and when you overtake them, say to them, “Why have you repaid evil for good?


The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud  to lead them on their way during the day and in a pillar of fire to give them light at night, so that they could travel day or night.


They said to Moses, ‘Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?


The Israelites said to them, ‘If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted. Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger! ’


Do not make gods of silver to rival me; do not make gods of gold for yourselves.


The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain and stay there so that I may give you the stone tablets  with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.’


Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.


But Moses sought the favour of the Lord his God: ‘Lord, why does your anger burn against your people you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand?


‘Don’t be enraged, my lord,’ Aaron replied. ‘You yourself know that the people are intent on evil.


They said to me, “Make gods for us who will go before us because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt #– #we don’t know what has happened to him! ”


The Lord spoke to Moses: ‘Go down at once! For your people you brought up from the land of Egypt have acted corruptly.


Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go up with you because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.’


‘ “But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. None of them threw away the abhorrent things that they prized,  and they did not abandon the idols of Egypt. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them,  exhausting my anger against them within the land of Egypt.


The Lord brought Israel from Egypt by a prophet, and Israel was tended by a prophet.


Indeed, I brought you up  from the land of Egypt and redeemed you  from that place of slavery. I sent Moses,  Aaron, and Miriam  ahead of you.


none of the men who have seen my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested me these ten times and did not obey me,


But know this: If the homeowner had known what time   the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.


But if that wicked servant says in his heart, “My master is delayed,”


Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.


You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods.


They told Aaron: Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what’s happened to him.   ,


The Lord is the one who will go before you.  He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.  Do not be afraid or discouraged.’


‘Listen, Israel: Today you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and drive out nations greater and stronger than you,  with large cities fortified to the heavens.


When I went up the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant  the Lord made with you, I stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights. I did not eat food or drink water.


‘Go and consecrate the people. Tell them to consecrate themselves for tomorrow,  for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are things that are set apart among you, Israel. You will not be able to stand against your enemies until you remove what is set apart.


saying, ‘Where is his “coming” that he promised?  Ever since our ancestors fell asleep,  all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.’
