The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your offspring  , I will give this land.’ So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.


Early in the morning Jacob took the stone that was near his head and set it up as a marker. He poured oil on top of it


This stone that I have set up as a marker will be God’s house, and I will give to you a tenth of all that you give me.’


So Jacob picked out a stone and set it up as a marker.


Then Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he had on, tore it into twelve pieces,


Elijah took twelve stones #– #according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, ‘Israel will be your name’   #– #


For the dedication of God’s house they offered one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, and four hundred lambs, as well as twelve male goats  as a sin offering for all Israel #– #one for each Israelite tribe.


Those whose seals were on the document were the governor Nehemiah  son of Hacaliah, and Zedekiah,


The Lord then said to Moses, ‘Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.’


And Moses built an altar  and named it, ‘The Lord Is My Banner.’


‘These are the ordinances that you are to set before them:


He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded, ‘We will do and obey all that the Lord has commanded.’


The twelve stones are to correspond to the names of Israel’s sons. Each stone must be engraved like a seal, with one of the names of the twelve tribes.


The Lord also said to Moses, ‘Write  down these words, for I have made a covenant with you and with Israel based on these words.’


On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the centre of the land of Egypt and a pillar to the Lord near her border.


‘Take fine flour and bake it into twelve loaves;  each loaf is to be made with four litres.


‘Speak to the Israelites and take one staff from them for each ancestral tribe,  twelve staffs from all the leaders of their tribes.  Write each man’s name on his staff.


so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom.   And you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.


When James,  Cephas,  , and John   #– #those recognised as pillars   #– #acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to me and Barnabas, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.


Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the Lord’s covenant, and to all the elders of Israel.


Then Joshua set up in Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan,


and said to them, ‘Go across to the ark of the Lord your God in the middle of the Jordan. Each of you lift a stone onto his shoulder, one for each of the Israelite tribes,


The city wall had twelve foundations, and the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb were on the foundations.
