Exodus 22:9 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

9 In any case of wrongdoing involving an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or anything else lost, and someone claims, “That’s mine,”  the case between the two parties is to come before the judges.  The one the judges condemn  must repay double to his neighbour.

When a man sins against his neighbour and is forced to take an oath,  , and he comes to take an oath before your altar in this temple,


For every dispute that comes to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities #– #whether it regards differences of bloodguilt, law, commandment, statutes, or judgements   #– #you are to warn them, so they will not incur guilt before the Lord and wrath will not come on you and your brothers.  Do this, and you will not incur guilt.


‘When a man gives his neighbour a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal to care for, but it dies, is injured, or is stolen, while no one is watching,


‘You must not blaspheme God  or curse a leader among your people.


If what was stolen #– #whether ox, donkey, or sheep #– #is actually found alive in his possession, he must repay double.


or anything else about which he swore falsely. He will make full restitution for it and add a fifth of its value to it.  He is to pay it to its owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.


‘If your brother sins against you,   go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother.


So also my heavenly Father will do to you unless every one of you forgives his brother or sister   from your heart.’


‘If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court, and the judges will hear their case. They will clear the innocent and condemn the guilty.
