22 Tagairtí Cros

On the seventh  day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested  on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it he rested  from all his work of creation.

At that time I saw people in Judah treading winepresses on the Sabbath. They were also bringing in stores of grain and loading them on donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were being brought to Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I warned them against selling food on that day.

You revealed your holy Sabbath to them, and gave them commands, statutes, and instruction through your servant Moses.

‘Do your work  for six days but rest on the seventh day so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave as well as the resident foreigner may be refreshed.

Moses assembled the entire Israelite community and said to them, ‘These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to do:

Happy is the person who does this, the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.

‘If you avoid desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on my holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the  Lord  honourable; if you honour it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking business;  ,

This is what the Lord says: Watch yourselves; do not pick up a load and bring it in through Jerusalem’s gates on the Sabbath day.

Do not carry a load out of your houses on the Sabbath day or do any work,  but keep the Sabbath day holy, just as I commanded your ancestors.

‘ “However, if you listen to me #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #and do not bring loads through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work on it,

Keep my Sabbaths holy,  and they will be a sign between me and you, so that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’

‘Each of you is to respect his mother and father.  You are to keep my Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.

Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary;  I am the Lord.

‘Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there is to be a Sabbath of complete rest,  a sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; it is a Sabbath  to the Lord wherever you live.

Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary;  I am the Lord.

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.

Be careful to remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy as the Lord your God has commanded you.
