So Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath: ‘When God comes to your aid, you are to carry my bones up from here.’


On that same day the Lord brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions.


‘Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you must camp in front of Baal-zephon, facing it by the sea.


The Egyptians #– #all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen,  and his army #– #chased  after them and caught up with them as they camped by the sea beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.


However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the Lord has told you, “You are never to go back that way again.”


He found him in a desolate land, in a barren, howling wilderness; he surrounded him, cared for him, and protected him as the pupil of his eye.


Your wives, dependents, and livestock may remain in the land Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But your best soldiers must cross over in battle formation  ahead of your brothers and help them


The Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh went in battle formation in front of the Israelites,  as Moses had instructed them.


About forty thousand equipped for war crossed to the plains of Jericho in the Lord’s presence.
